Meat consumption in Germany rose surprisingly by 0.8 % to an average of 53.2 kilograms per capita in 2024. The main driver is poultry, which increased by around 500 grams per person and benefited from falling prices and its reputation as a light source of protein. However, this development reveals a nuanced picture: consumers are taking advantage of low prices, while social awareness of sustainability and animal welfare is growing in parallel.
