The Hardest & Easiest TV Subtitles to Follow

It is now common for viewers to use subtitles or closed captions when watching their favorite TV series. But which shows deliver the most words per minute — and how do they stack up against the leading social media influencers? Kapwing commissioned us to crunched the numbers to find out.

We counted the number of subtitled words in up to 50 of the latest episodes of the most popular TV shows and divided it by episode length to find the average words per minute (WPM). For comparison, the average silent reading rate for English fiction is 260 words per minute whereas for reading aloud, it is 183 words per minute.
