The Genres that Sample Black Sabbath the Most

Black Sabbath are widely credited for being a leading band in the creation of metal music, but their influence goes further than heavy guitars.

For this visual, I counted every music sample of Black Sabbath recorded on WhoSampled.com and categorised the sampling artist by genre.

This revealed a wide array of genres that have sampled Black Sabbath over the years—Hip-hop leads the way, with 120 samples. Famous rappers to sample Black Sabbath include: Kanye West, Cypress Hill and A Tribe Called Quest.

Another sample-friendly genre like Electronic has sampled Black Sabbath at least 37 times, with the likes of Daft Punk, Massive Attack and Fatboy Slim incorporating multiple elements of the band into their own music.

In total, 33 Black Sabbath songs have been identified for their sampling on more than 200 songs across 15 genres of music. That's according to the samples identified on WhoSampled.com.
