📈 Top Crude Oil Suppliers to the U.S. (1975–2024): Canada's Dominance Over OPEC

Canada’s Rise as the Dominant U.S. Crude Oil Supplier: OPEC’s Decline Since 2014
In 2024, U.S. crude oil imports averaged 6.59 million barrels per day (Mb/d)—35% below the peak levels of 2004–2007. Canada supplied 4.07 Mb/d (61.7%) of total imports, far surpassing OPEC members at 0.79 Mb/d (11.9%), Mexico at 0.46 Mb/d (7.0%), and other American countries at 1.03 Mb/d (15.6%). Historically, OPEC was the leading crude oil supplier to the U.S., but since 2014, Canada has firmly held the top position, marking a major shift in U.S. energy trade dynamics.
