China's crude oil imports fell sharply in June 2026 to near a decade low as war in the Persian Gulf disrupted regional oil supplies. Total imports declined from 12.4 mb/d in February to 7.1 mb/d in June—a 43% drop in just four months. The contraction was driven by a 67% collapse in imports from the Persian Gulf, which fell from 6.4 mb/d to 2.1 mb/d, while imports from the rest of the world declined a comparatively modest 18%. The disruption exposed China's continued reliance on Persian Gulf crude despite years of supplier diversification.
