The team at Data Explained gathered intel from the OECD’s Education at a Glance report to show, above, annual tuition for domestic bachelor’s students across 28 education systems.
The United States is often assumed to have the world’s most expensive college tuition, but the data tells a different story.
England charges domestic bachelor’s students an average of $13,135 per year at public institutions, the highest among the 28 education systems in the record.
The United States ranks second at $9,596, leaving a $3,539 gap. Adjusted for purchasing power, that means public universities in England cost nearly 37% more than those in the U.S.
Both countries stand well above the rest. Poland ranks third at $7,497, already more than $2,000 below the U.S. figure.
