U.S. Tech Manufacturing on the Rise
What We’re Showing
U.S. manufacturing construction spending between 2019 and 2024 broken down by type of manufacturing, as of April 2024.
Figures are seasonally adjusted and come from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Value of Construction Put in Place Survey, which publishes monthly estimates of the total value of construction work done in the U.S.
Computer Manufacturing Is Booming
Computer, electronic, and electrical manufacturing construction spending has shot up by 170% since the passing of the CHIPS Act in August 2022.
The CHIPS Act, introduced by the Biden administration to strengthen America's position in the semiconductor market, includes semiconductor manufacturing grants, research investments, and an investment tax credit for chip manufacturing.
Companies like Micron, Qualcomm, and GlobalFoundries announced billion-dollar investments to build or expand facilities for chip manufacturing in the U.S. right after the passing of the CHIPS Act.
