The 1st of the ranking is the mexican businessman Carlos Slim, who has the largest fortune in the region and the 11th in the world. He owns América Móvil, the largest mobile phone operator in LatAm, which owns Claro in Brazil. According to @bloomberglineabrasil, Slim is also an investor of The New York Times. The second richest person in LatAm is German Larrea, whose group has mining businesses.
And closing the top 3 is Íris Fontbona, belonging to the richest family in Chile, with a fortune that comes from mining - they are one of the largest copper producers in the world.
Among the Brazilians are: Eduardo Saverin, who actually did not grow up in Brazil and made his fortune in the USA with Facebook; Vicky Safra, heiress to the Banco Safra family fortune; JP Lemann, Marcel Telles and Beto Sicupira, from 3G, who made their fortune with the world's largest brewery and consumer goods.
