Washington's answer to all this was a port fee on China-built ships. It switched on 14 October 2025. It was paused 27 days later in a trade deal. China did not slow down while the fee slept.
The pause ends 9 November. Only a new official notice can extend it, and as of 1 October, there wasn't one.
