U.S. nonfarm-business labour compensation fell to 52.9% of value added in Q2 2026, the lowest quarterly reading in the BLS series beginning in 1947. Put plainly: of every $100 of value added in this sector, $52.90 was paid as compensation to workers. This is not a measure of every U.S. worker, household income, corporate profits, or inequality. It covers the BLS nonfarm-business sector and its accounting definition of labour compensation; the latest quarter is preliminary and can be revised. The chart plots every quarterly BLS observation from Q1 1947 to Q2 2026.
