Brazil leads Latin America in R&D spending

🇧🇷 Brazil stands out by far as the biggest research and development investor in Latin America. In 2020 Brazil’s R&D intensity was about 1.21% of GDP, roughly double or more than most countries in the region. This made Brazil one of the few LAC countries investing above 1% of its domestic production in R&D. The region’s average R&D intensity was only about 0.7% of GDP, below the world average (1.8%) and below Anglo North America and Europe (2-2.5%).
