This map is color-coded by which U.S. states beat the federal minimum wage, and which ones don’t. Data was sourced from the Federal Reserve, as of 2024.

Thirty states have a minimum wage that’s higher than the federal minimum of $7.25/hr.
Of them, Washington ($16.28/hr) and California ($16/hr) pay the most, but federal district Washington D.C. ($17.50/hr) is the highest in the country.
Twenty states either match the federal benchmark, have a state minimum below the federal, or don’t have one at all—which makes the federal minimum applicable.
