China's goods exports to the U.S. surpassed the combined exports of the four leading Asian industrial economies (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam) in 2005, the European Union in 2006, and Mexico in 2003. However, since 2019, China's share has declined, while the EU and these four Asian economies have increased their exports. By 2023, China's exports to the U.S. lagged behind the EU, Mexico and the four leading Asian economies.
