Where Data Tells the Story

Spain’s production of 5.1 million tonnes represents approximately 30% of the total global yield, underscoring an extreme geographic concentration within the industry. This hegemony is significant: Spain alone produces more tonnage than the combined output of Italy, Türkiye, and Portugal (4.9 million tonnes total). Consequently, global price stability remains disproportionately leveraged against climatic conditions in the Iberian Peninsula.
However, the data indicates a structural shift toward the MENA (Middle East & North Africa) region. The aggregated output of Türkiye, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Syria, and Saudi Arabia exceeds 6.6 million tonnes. This confirms that while the European Union retains the largest individual producers, the volume necessary to meet global demand is increasingly sourced from the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean rim, diversifying the supply chain away from a purely European monopoly.
