Asia Pacific Travel Surges 33% in 2024, Led by Tokyo, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur

Asia Pacific welcomed 347 million international overnight visitors across 164 destinations in 2024, up 33.3% from the year before. The region is a powerhouse in global travel capturing 37% of international tourists at the destination level.

The region's Top 30 destinations accounted for 217 million international overnight arrivals, representing 63% of Asia Pacific's total. Tourism in Asia Pacific remains concentrated with the top 10 destinations alone accounting for 40% of all 164 regional destinations. To sharpen this point, Tokyo and Bangkok by themselves drew nearly 50 million travelers. On a country basis, the destinations of Japan, Thailand, and Malaysia dominate the leaderboard with 17 of the top 30 spots, while Vietnamese destinations are emerging as challengers to Thailand’s regional leadership in Southeast Asia.
