U.S. population growth fell from 3.2 million in the year ending June 2024 to 1.8 million in the year ending June 2025: a 44% decline. The main driver was net international migration. Census estimates show it fell from 2.7 million to 1.3 million, a 53.8% decline. Natural change—births minus deaths—was roughly 519,000, broadly unchanged. This is not a claim that immigration is the only force shaping population or the economy. It shows why the annual growth total changed so sharply. These are Census estimates for July-to-June periods, not calendar-year counts or projections.
