‘Graying Dragon’: China’s Population is Ageing

China has one of the world's fastest-growing ageing populations. The median age of Chinese nationals is expected to rise to 52.1 years in 2050, up from 39.1 in 2023. In 2019, China had 254 million people aged 60 or older. By 2040, this number is expected to rise to 402 million, accounting for approximately 28% of the population (WHO).
