China lost nearly 60 million people aged 16–59 from 2015 to 2025, while its 60+ population grew by more than 100 million. China’s demographic tailwind has reversed. Official data show that the population aged 16–59 fell from 910.96 million in 2015 to 851.36 million in 2025 — a decline of 59.60 million. Over the same decade, the population aged 60 and above increased from 222.00 million to 323.38 million, a gain of 101.38 million. Births fell from 16.55 million in 2015 to 7.92 million in 2025. China’s total population also declined for three consecutive years from 2023 through 2025. The graphic focuses on the demographic reversal itself rather than attributing specific market or property outcomes to demographics.
