U.S. population growth slowed from 1.0% in 2024 to 0.5% in 2025, largely because net international migration fell from 2.7 million to 1.3 million. U.S. population growth slowed sharply in 2025. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Vintage 2025 population estimates, the population increased by about 3.2 million people, or 1.0%, between 2023 and 2024. Between 2024 and 2025, growth fell to 1.8 million people, or 0.5%. The main driver was a historic decline in net international migration. Net international migration fell from 2.7 million in 2024 to 1.3 million in 2025, a decline of 53.8%. Natural increase — births minus deaths — remained roughly stable at about 0.5 million. This is a slowdown, not a population decline. The U.S. population still increased in 2025, reaching about 341.8 million people.
