While the One Big Beautiful Bill Act made some big budget moves, it’s actually part of a larger budgeting process.
👀 So let’s take a look at President Trump’s 2026 budget proposal.
So what does the 2026 budget proposal cut?
⬇️ $119.3B less for non-defense programs — a 7.4% drop
⬇️ Cuts for 11 cabinet departments and an overall decrease for non-cabinet agencies.
And what does the proposal boost? 4 cabinet departments would get budget increases.
⬆️+$113.3 billion for the Department of Defense — the largest increase by dollar amount.
⬆️+ $42.3 billion for the Department of Homeland Security — the largest percentage increase of 64.9%
⬆️ +$5.4 billion for the Deptartment of Veteran Affairs — including $3.3 billion for veteran healthcare
⬆️ +$1.5B for the US Department of Transportation
