In 2024, 15 of India’s 28 states witnessed extreme weather events on 100 or more days. That’s roughly one in every three days disrupted by 7 extreme weather event types: heavy rains, floods and landslides, lightning and storms, cloudbursts, cyclones, heatwaves, cold waves or snowfall.
This means that on those days, some part of the state experienced an extreme weather event.
Five states faced 100+ days of extreme weather events for three consecutive years: Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh
