Europe's infrastructure gap for e-cars

Europe's infrastructure gap for e-cars

A recent analysis together with Motointegrator shows that Europe is lagging far behind its own targets when it comes to expanding the charging infrastructure for e-cars: Currently, the EU is only achieving 26% of the 2030 target, five years ahead of the deadline. The charging points installed each year are nowhere near enough to reach the level required by the EU Commission. The supply outside the cities is often patchy, while at the same time private players such as supermarkets are trying to close the gaps.

The challenges go far beyond mere numbers: faster authorisation procedures, more powerful networks and transparent prices are needed, as is more even distribution. By 2030, around 520,000 new charging points will need to be created each year for Europe to reach its target.
