International tourism to the Middle East & Africa (MEA) grew by 10.3% in 2024, reaching 98 million international overnight arrivals — 22% above its pre-COVID peak in 2019. The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) subregion accounted for the majority, contributing 84% of total arrivals, while Sub-Saharan Africa represented the remaining 16%.
Across the 42 destinations tracked in MEA, the Top 30 attracted 94 million visitors, representing almost all (95%) of the regional total. Dubai retained its long-standing position as the region’s most-visited destination — a title it has held since the database’s inception in 2009 — followed by Makkah and Bahrain. Within Sub-Saharan Africa, South Africa stands out, contributing six destinations to the regional Top 30.
