Purchasing and selling domain names can be a lucrative investment. When looking at the highest priced domain name sales, it’s important to separate the domain name itself from associated business revenues and websites. This list is for the domain name only and does not include other revenue. The source, DNJournal, only reports on validated, documented sales of domain names. Many domain sales are protected by NDAs and are therefore speculative and some domains are paid off over multi-year payment plans, so these are not included in this list. This list includes only validated cash sales. 

While there are many top level domains to choose from (TLD) such as .ai, .net and .io, for example, .com is still the most sought-after and valuable TLD.
