Rising Driving License Costs in Germany

Getting a driver’s license in Germany is becoming increasingly expensive: in 2024, the average cost was around €3,070. Notably, 62 percent of learner drivers now pay between €2,500 and €3,500-with the number in the upper cost bracket more than doubling.

This is mainly due to higher prices for driving lessons, increased exam fees, and an ongoing shortage of driving instructors, all of which drive costs up further.

Compared to the rest of Europe, Germany remains one of the most expensive countries for obtaining a license, while countries like Czechia and Bulgaria stand out with much lower prices.
