Electric cars are booming in Europe – Tesla under pressure

While the European market for electric cars is growing, Tesla is increasingly falling behind, as our analysis in cooperation with Motointegrator shows.
Sales dropped by 44% in the first quarter of 2025, even though demand for EVs in the EU continues to rise.
In countries like Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, Tesla sales have fallen by more than half, while competitors such as Volkswagen, Renault, and BYD are seeing strong gains.
A key reason for this development is Elon Musk’s controversial political role, which is facing growing rejection in Europe. On top of that, new EU tariffs, rising protectionism, and regulatory pressure are putting additional strain on Tesla.
